If anyone here has the Lester Young album "Complete Small Group, Vol. 2" I would greatly appreciate it if you would send it to me.

I lost all my music last year and really really want this album back but it's super hard to find online and I haven't the funds to buy it.

Thanks!

I just got the newest version of Band-In-A-Box, and had a total newbie question to ask...I've entered chords, set seperate A & B sections, but can't figure out how to put in the repeat or coda signs into the chart so that it prints out as a minimized (1 or 2 page max) chart. Anyone here know how to do that?

This looks like a great community, so I thought I'd check in to say hi. I'm a 33 year old jazz vocalist from Santa Cruz, CA...my influences are mostly from 20's through 40's groups, and I have a deep affinity for such talents as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole & Count Basie, among others. I just recently started up a jazz trio this last month after leaving my 20's-30's Hawaiian jazz group, The Faux Hawaiians. I'm also a member of the local jazz society, and do jam sessions with them once or twice a week, when I can fit them in between band rehearsals. Oddly enough, a lot of my circle of friends don't seem to be into the type of music I perform and listen to (although I listen to other types of music as well, jazz has really risen to the forefront of my musical influences over the years)...so it's good to be able to talk with people online who do appreciate it. Anyway, enough about me. Here's a question for you: what/who first got you into jazz, or was it just always an inflence present in your life?

Hiyas,
Another new guy joining the forum. I'm Nick and I'm big fan of jazz and blues. Being british alot of my early exposure to jazz came through the Trad-Jazz revivalists such as Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk, Bob Wallis and so forth but I quickly discovered more. I've very wide ranging jazz tastes with cds by Jelly Roll Morton, Ornette Coleman, Charles LLoydd, Benny Goodman and the ODJB all in my collection. I look forward to contributing to the forum. If anyone wants to add me, feel free.

Hello everyone!

My name is Shaye and I just joined. I love all types of music, when it comes to jazz I love quite a bit especially the roaring 20s Chicago jazz, and the saucy jazz of New Orleans and St. Louis. The only thing I don't listen to quite as much is more of the jazz fusion styles of the later decades. I do like it but not as much.

I have lots of favorite songs and artists, it's almost impossible to choose. I'm glad I found a great jazz community, I look forward to hearing more great jazz/swing artists and bands!

Hiya. I'm new, and I thought I would ask if anyone would be willing to burn a copy of Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto for me. I'd burn anything for you that you'd be interested in! My name is Andrew.

Hello everyone. I was wondering what your favorite jazz albums of all time were because I would like to explore more of this genre. About eight months ago I decided to download some Duke Ellington. I had already been a fan of Ella Fitzgerald, but never went far beyond that. The Ellington track was AMAZING. I don't even know the name of it, but I just listen to it everyday and never get sick of it. I then downloaded some Charles Mingus and Count Basie. I really love it. So please, tell me more!

I think its amazing how listening to a few Miles Davis charts can invoke a totally blue(but not *sad*) feeling. It's genius.

Does anyone have any opinions on John Coltrane's avant-garde period, starting from 1965 with "Ascension" and lasting to the end of his life. I just bought "Ascension" and I am perplexed. I really enjoy it but this music is very dense. I can't quite grasp it but I've been studying it a lot. So if anyone has any opinions on this album or any thing from John Coltrane's avant-garde period I'd like to hear them.

Who is the most influental jazz musician to you, and why?

For me I know I can't choose, but at the moment it would probably be Johnny Dodds. I just love the clarinet and he can really make it sound hot. I also completely dig Bubber Miley, Kid Ory, and Sidney Bechet because those cats knew how to lead some fantastic groups.

Mood: chipper.
I guess we're all new around here, but thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a huge fan of female vocalists, my favorite being Dinah Washington.
I would love to find a few "new"/obscure jazz women.
Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks!

I believe that one of the greatest 40's-50's jazz albums of all time is The Best of Miles Davis: The Capitol/Blue Note Years. Other ones include "Somethin' Else" by Cannonball Adderley, "Roy & Diz" by Roy Eldridge and Dizzy Gillespie,
and of course before that time period, any of the earlier various albums put out by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, Louis Armstrong with the Hot Five and the Hot Seven, Jelly Roll Morton, and Duke Ellington just to name a few.

I can't get enough of Count Basie lately. Listening can improve my mood in a second.
